Love Meets Needs

And love is willing to make sacrifices in order to meet the needs of others.

Philippians 4:19: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God knows that our greatest need is for a Savior. God supplies that need to all who receive Jesus.

John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

God*s love (agape) also supplies all the lesser needs of His children. Notice that the book of Philippians was written to saints (believers). God makes no such promise to unbelievers.

Philippians 1:1a: Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: . . .

We are usually able to know what we ourselves need. If we love our neighbor we will try to learn what he needs and meet his need. If he needs something that we cannot provide, we might enlist the help of others or we might ask the Lord to meet it. If we are not consciously seeking to know what our neighbor needs, we are not loving him. Loving him would include asking him what he needs and it would include observing him to see what he needs. Minding my own business for the other fellow*s benefit is a good thing but minding my own business to avoid loving him is sin.

Luke 10:27: And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

Galatians 5:22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love (agape), joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

When we receive Jesus and are indwelt by the Holy Spirit, meeting the needs of others should increase. It might not be very noticeable at first but it should grow.

1 Thessalonians 3:12: And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

If you are not actively meeting the needs of others, I seriously doubt that you have received Jesus. If you do not at least want to meet the needs of others, you yourself should doubt that you are saved. You need to find out if you have really received Jesus but are carnal or if you have not received Him at all.
